“Realizing the Nature of What We’re Looking For”, Frank Korb, 22 3/4″ x 30″, Acrylic, Bible Pages, Roll-A-Tex, on paper, 2021.
“Realizing the Nature of What We’re Looking For” got finished up on Saturday morning – February 20. I’ve also finished the footage for the upcoming film that documented the process. This film was inspired by the words of French filmmakerSoraya Milla (thanks). So that you can become excited about the upcoming film, here are some of the final details from the painting and a link to the progress / process of this painting.

Looking back at a short video of 22 slides of Henri Matisse’s progress and development of the 1935 Pink Nude (see above and watch it on YouTube) I have created a short video showing the progress of my newest work Being Full Engaged in the Moment (see below) and included the progress in a photo album HERE.
A short film is also being crafted regarding my next work – as yet untitled – but be patient, that is just beginning. Enjoy.

On top of being an artist, being an educator offers me so many positives in life that I can hardly count. Even as we roll, trudge, slog, suffer, and survive through the Corona virus Pandemic, teaching young artists about how art positively affects their lives is a great part of my life. While we talk about the events of the world, we also look at the events of the past and how the arts have helped people through them. Works that were essential to the everyday (architecture of the Egyptians and middle east that gave a place to live and worship like the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut), to artifacts that told stories of war, peace, suffering and triumph (Bayeux Tapestry or Trajan’s Column) to works that were just too powerful to be out in public at the time of their creation (Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People). It is a great opportunity to share the past of our humanity with them.
Beyond the history – we also have to (and do most of the time) talk about and demonstrate the MAKING of art. Techniques, approaches, compositions, elements and principles. With that, one on my great joys is taking the time to work on projects along side of them – demonstrating the ideas and process of making art. This part of the job gives me the opportunity to show off (and practice) different skills of observation and making art not necessarily seen in the abstractions. Here are a few of my more recent images and videos I have put together to help them along the way. Enjoy.

These are the first 3 paintings of the series from the completed sketchbook (HERE) and 2021 will move forward with the fourth work – click on the image to see the PROGRESS of each work.

I am continuing to work out some of the small sketches in acrylic into larger formats. So far two works have been completed – a third one begins shortly (and hopefully gets finished by the end of the year). This has been a very productive year. 53 works of abstraction (that are posted on my site) and a few additional works as well. Please enjoy and reach out if you are interested in owning one (or more) of the works or are in need of a commission. – Frank

MARN (the Milwaukee Artist Resource Network) has a sketchbook project for their new space opening up this (or next) year. Each artist that purchased a book fills it up and sends it back for their sketchbook collection. I have filled mine (link HERE to see them all) and am now realizing some of them in a larger format. Please click HEREto see the progress of “Waking Up To This Moment.” Enjoy!

Six New Works – Titles are there – I just need to photograph them separately. 6″ x 6″ each. Acrylic and collage on paper. 2020. $100 each.
The past months (years) have created in me (and others) a sense of strife, anxiety, anger, and worry. Not only because of the political decisions that had been made in the oval office but also because of the divide and rise of hate, division, lack of acceptance of everyone. In addition, the acceptance of the behaviors, words, discrimination, racism (and the list goes on) has caused me (and others) a great deal of concern for the moral compass that this country is using as a guide. Over the past year I have been creating works that are specific to the fight we, as a nation, are in. I am a liberal. I am a progressive. I am a Democrat. Above all that I am an American. Above even that I am human who is concerned for all humanity.
Here are my works. Enjoy. Ask questions. Inquire. They are all for sale (that’s what a website is for right? For sale unless otherwise noted). Thanks for visiting.
Frank
