Kala (one of my great students) came to my show:
Special thanks to all those family and friends (new and old) that were able to make the Open Canvas event in Milwaukee. Thanks also to those who sent me images so I was able to have them (no cameras please). Thank you especially to Tiffany for purchasing (and all those who bid) the painting She Does Love to Swim and to the lovely young, up and coming artist who visited me a couple of times throughout the evening who helped me name the painting.
The event was a complete success! The assortment of artists was fantastic and talented. Some works looked done at 2:00 and others took a few more (mine) to get NEAR completion. From 1pm – 10pm I painted. I got VERY worried around 8:00pm when I was certain I wasn’t going to get done. My only regret about the evening was that I didn’t get the chance to see much of the artwork from the night. A few specific artist’s works I was hoping to see but never got around to. Maybe there’ll be a website with the “official” photographs from the night.
Thank you to Jeff Kursel for putting the entire night together and also to Lori for dropping this event in my lap and making a phone call for me. I really had a great time and thank you so very much. Maybe I’ll be back next year… I sure HOPE I get the invite back! Enjoy!

Ted Orland took a break from his Wisconsin vacation to stop by my classroom at Waterford Union High School to visit with and share his life experiences. A great big THANKS to Ted for his generous offer and enormous gratitude to the students for the interest, respect, and great questions they posed to Ted. Enjoy the slideshow and here’s a link to the images: http://bit.ly/aTyNtP

On Thursday, my daughter and I took the Metra from Fox Lake, IL to Chicago to do the sights. An hour and a half train trip to the city, a day and good portion of the night, and then the trip home (another hour and a half). Regardless of the time and expenses, we had a wonderful day. On top of that, we met some really neat individuals from Seattle, had drinks and some snacks, and some fun conversations. I only wish I had busted out my sketchbook at that point. Whatever… I did make 5 drawings during the day, 3 of which I managed to photograph and present here. Thanks to everyone I was able to draw, it was nice for you to knowingly, of unknowingly, pose. Enjoy.

Racine Co. Fair… Day 3. Today I participated in the first En Plein Air Painting contest. There were 5 first year entrants and we were given a canvas and 3 hours to complete our observations of the fair. I thought about what everyone sees when they come to the fair and what the most common, every-year, and, to me, iconic areas of the fair there were. The main entrance and Squires Hot Dog stand stood out to me. Here are pictures that Julie took of the First Year WINNER! $40 and a great 2′ x 4′ canvas and the honor of being the inaugural winner! Thanks to the Racine Co. Fair for putting on such a great idea. There were a lot of great conversations and questions by the fair goers and other artists who took place. Julie, thanks for taking the pictures and for the 4 hours of painting time. Thanks also to Toni for talking me into joining the fun!
While this might be a strange thing to post on my Art Site, and who knows who all visits me… here it goes. I have 6 lawn seats for the Jimmy Buffett Show on June 26 for sale. $45 a piece and they are yours. Call me, e-mail me, comment me… get in touch with me and they are yours for the enjoyment. Fins Up.

This is the link to a short film by Sadie Satter about Identity in the Workplace. There are many good jobs out there, but for me to have the opportunity to do what I do… working with the young artists that I do… this job is the best. Please take 2:17 seconds to hear what I think and see what goes on in the classroom.

This is a second collaboration piece between myself (Frank Korb) and my new friend Amanda. Amanda asked me if I would do a drawing for her, because she knew that I was an artist and thought it might be cool to have a drawing. I liked the idea with my first collaboration and thought it would be a great idea if I could do a second one. I agreed, but she had to add to the drawing that I completed in order for the drawing to be completed. (I just need her to sign this one). Excellent job Amanda! Thank you for sharing the time and talents (and for making my bowl of cereal into a cup of coffee). Click on the image to see a much larger version of the picture.
